Every Base
Ten founders asked who gets to decide how AI is built, governed and used. This is a mirror held up to civilization — reflecting back every unmet need, every silent plea — and the architecture Genesis is built to answer them with. The room is all ten.
The Human Condition
Beneath every policy paper, every protest, every late-night doom-scroll lies a deeper ache. We listened. We mapped ten cries that echo across every culture, every generation, every boardroom and bedroom on earth — and Genesis is built to answer each one.
“The algorithm decides what I see, what I buy, what I believe. I’m not driving anymore — I’m being driven.”
How Genesis Answers
Genesis is built so a person holds the model, the preferences, and the data. No hidden recommendation engine. No engagement optimization. The AI is built to work for the person who sets its terms.
“I can’t tell what’s real anymore. Every image could be fake. Every article could be synthetic. Reality itself feels negotiable.”
How Genesis Answers
Genesis is built to trace a claim to its source and to keep a disagreement visible. What stands is 36 million facts and 105 million connections in the full brain, and 7.3 million searchable passages. Clarity, with no one appointed to silence a voice.
“They scraped my writing, my art, my code — trained models on my life’s work and sold it back to me. I wasn’t augmented. I was strip-mined.”
How Genesis Answers
Genesis is built to attribute every work that enters it, by the name of the person who made it, and to leave that person’s terms intact. Creators are partners in the record. Their work is not raw material to be scraped and sold back.
“My identity lives on platforms I don’t control. My reputation is one policy change from vanishing. I rent my own digital existence.”
How Genesis Answers
Genesis is built so data, models, and reputation stay with the person: portable, and held by them. A platform is not meant to be the place that can erase a life, because the person holds what is theirs.
“If machines can write, paint, code, compose — what am I for? What’s left that’s uniquely, irreplaceably human?”
How Genesis Answers
The person stays the rider. Genesis is built as a bicycle for the mind, so the work of making, judging, and caring remains human.
“AI wealth pools where the companies already sit. The rest of the world gets to be customers — or training data. The gap widens with every breakthrough.”
How Genesis Answers
Day 7 is a public benefit corporation. Genesis is built so the same intelligence can reach 8 billion people, a farmer in Rwanda and a chief executive in Manhattan alike.
“I have a crowd that follows me and no one to call when the night is quiet. I’m connected to everything and intimate with nothing.”
How Genesis Answers
Genesis is built for depth. No infinite scroll. No loop that feeds on attention. The measure that matters is whether a person is well, and whether they can find their way back to someone real.
“There are no rules — just terms of service written by the same companies they’re meant to constrain. The fox doesn’t just guard the henhouse; it built it.”
How Genesis Answers
Genesis is built for oversight the community holds, under constraints written down before the crisis. A company does not grade its own homework. The people affected have the voice, and no single entity holds the veto. This is the call’s approach of shaping how AI is governed and used.
“We’re building a future at such speed that I don’t recognize it anymore. My children will inherit a world I can’t navigate, built by systems I can’t understand.”
How Genesis Answers
What stands is 3.1 million manuscript records, and 283,570 manuscripts located in 26 other libraries. Genesis is built so the future can read the heritage that survived, and remember where it came from.
“Is there a better way? Or is this just what technology does — concentrate power, erode trust, accelerate inequality? Is there any other path?”
How Genesis Answers
Yes. This is the other path. Not a protest waiting to be absorbed. Not a rule waiting to be talked away. Genesis is built so people can hold it, govern it, and refuse a use that does not serve them. What stands and can be counted: over 93,000 commits across 336 days, from 3 Nov 2025 to 5 Oct 2026.
The cries stay. Genesis is built to answer each one. The counts on this page were measured 5 Oct 2026.
The Ten Founders
Ten foundations founded Humanity AI, so that AI might serve people. Their open call, Communities Leading on AI, asks who gets to decide how AI is built, governed and used. Three issue areas: Education; Labor and economy; Humanities, arts and culture. Three approaches: shaping how AI is governed and used, building AI on community terms, and challenging AI that does not serve communities. Democracy and security stay as interests the founders already hold. Their words: Supporting the creation of public goods that put AI access and control in the hands of people.
The Open Call
Democracy is a founders’ interest. The Packard Foundation asks that new technologies play a positive role in shaping the future of democracy. Katy Knight, Siegel Family Endowment: the voices and agency of the people whose lives it affects. Genesis is built so a claim can be traced to its source, and so no one company holds the only rules.
Built to doEducation is an issue area of Communities Leading on AI. Genesis is built so students and educators shape how AI is used in learning. The people in the learning set the use. That is building AI on community terms.
Built to doThis is the call’s issue area for artists, scholars, and keepers of culture. Genesis is built so the maker keeps their name on the work, and so art, philosophy, and science can be read together. A scraped life sold back to its maker is the harm this base exists to refuse.
Built to doLabor and economy is an issue area of the call. Genesis is built so the tool enhances a person’s work and the worker helps set the terms. Challenging AI that does not serve communities belongs beside the people who do the work.
Built to doSecurity is a founders’ interest from the coalition’s launch, and not one of the three issue areas on the call. Genesis is built so identity and data stay with the person who lives the life. A use that harms people is meant to be refused by rules set in advance.
Built to do“The promise of AI will be realized when communities have a seat at the table.”
— John Palfrey, MacArthur FoundationWhere They Meet
Genesis was built from the cries. The ten founders named the bases. The meeting place is who gets to decide.
Genesis is built so people own their data, their identity, their AI. No platform holds the keys. Digital self-determination as a human right.
Information integrity as what Genesis is built to hold. Many sources, where a person can see them. The record is meant to be visible.
Technology built to make people more capable, and to leave them in the work that is theirs. A bicycle for the mind. Wellbeing ahead of engagement.
Open source. Open standards. Open governance. The internet belongs to everyone — and the intelligence layer must follow.
The same intelligence, built to be available to a farmer in Rwanda and to a chief executive in Manhattan. Public benefit, held for people.
Oversight the community is built to hold, under constraints written down in advance. Governance shaped with the people whose lives the system touches.
The Transformation
“We already have the cure to cancer and energy and hunger. It’s just scattered across 8 billion people. We just have to connect it.”
— Carter Hill, Founder of Genesis & Day 7 Public Benefit CorporationThe Invitation
This is an invitation to build with the ten founders. What stands has been counted. The bases are the ones they named. The call is Communities Leading on AI.
Every cry above is a base Genesis is built to answer. Another way is what the architecture is for. What remains is to build it with the communities who will hold it, together.
Mozilla kept the open internet a public good. Genesis has been building for 336 days, from 3 Nov 2025 to 5 Oct 2026. The ten founders asked who decides. We are built to answer, with them.
